Why are American university students fine with sharing a room?

Hell, I grew up sharing a room with my (step-)sister for a while and frankly it was terrible! She got the side that didn’t have the fucking door and the fucking oil-fired-oven (the house didn’t have central-heating at first, my parents bought a house that was not up to modern standards and it took a while to fix it up!)…so next to my small bed (kid sized!) I had little room for anything! Hell, it was near “paradise” having that room to myself later on (sister got an almost equally large room in the attick that we rebuilt as additional living space!)

I don’t know!

So yeah, never doing that again ever! I’d rather sleep in a fucking tent below a bridge! At least that allows some privacy! Sharing a room does not!

How did you cope when someone you love, dealing with hyper-independence and trauma, felt they needed space to heal alone? Were you able to support them without overstepping, and did you eventually reconnect? How did that journey unfold?
